THE Belle Vue ‘Cool Running’ Colts hope to bring the curtain down on a successful season for the club as they pursue the National Development League silver medal on Monday, October 7.
They go up against the combined Sheffield/Scunthorpe outfit in the final fixture of the season for the club, just days after the ATPI Aces clinched the Premiership League title at Leicester.
The team holds a significant 39-50 advantage on aggregate after their impressive win at Owlerton Stadium last month, and the full 3-league point haul would be enough to secure a silver medal.
And in a huge boost to the team, the Cool Running colts will be almost at full strength for their final hurrah of the season, with Luke Muff and Chad Wirtzfeld returning from injury.
William Cairns, unfortunately, is ruled out with concussion after crashing out of the British U-19 Championships on Sunday, with ATPI Aces No.7 Jake Mulford coming in to replace him.
Supporters attending will also have the opportunity to snap a picture with the league trophy, which will be at the Stadium following the ATPI Aces’ incredible Premiership victory last week.
It will on parade with several members of the league championship winning team, including Aces skipper Brady Kurtz and reserve duo Antti Vuolas and Jake Mulford.
Team bosses Steve Williams and Graham Goodwin are confident their side can add to the medal tally in their final home appearance, but say they are taking nothing for granted.
Goodwin said: “The matter of the league winners may already have been decided but there is still a lot at stake for our boys in our match against Sheffield/Scunthorpe.
“A win by six points or more will lift us above Oxford into second place in the NDL table and ensure the silver medal will be going around the Colts riders’ necks.
“But of course success at NDL level is not judged solely by silverware. Seeing each rider progress is far more important, and we think it’s been a good season of progress.
“We’re delighted to end our season with a complete team. Chad and Luke had a large chunk of the year taken away by injury, so we’re pleased to have them back for tonight’s finale.
“Everyone is pumped up to end things on a high and we hope to see plenty of support in the grandstand for the boys.”
One meeting remains before Belle Vue box off their season, with the Cool Running Colts taking to the track in Manchester on Monday, October 7 when they face Sheffield/Scunthorpe.
Meeting tickets, race day programmes and south stand parking are available to pre-book online at bellevue-speedway.com/events.
Further information on the club’s end-of-season awards night – The Maugers 2024 – will also be communicated in due course via the club’s official website.
