BELLE Vue are delighted to announce the signing of 2017 World Champion Jason Doyle – who will make his return to British speedway next week.
Doyle has joined the ATPI Aces as a replacement for Dan Bewley, who suffered a broken femur along with back injuries in a crash in Denmark last month.
The club remain in close contact with Bewley and will continue to monitor his recovery, and they have made the move for Doyle in order to maintain heat-leader strength over the coming weeks.
Doyle, 40, is one of the sport’s most decorated riders with a UK career dating back over two decades, including Premiership league titles with Swindon in 2017 and 2019, and with Ipswich last year.
He has spent the last four seasons with the Witches but stepped away from British racing over the winter following uncertainty over the Foxhall club’s future as takeover attempts continued.
Now the Aces have tempted him back to race on a home track where he has already enjoyed plenty of individual success as a four-time winner of the Peter Craven Memorial Trophy, and subject to BSPL approval he will be in the team to face Leicester on Monday.
Belle Vue CEO Mark Lemon said: “I’ve had a long conversation with Dan, who quite naturally wants to come back, and all I’ve said to him is he will know when his body is ready, and at the moment none of us can put a timeframe on that.
“I’d like to welcome Jason to the club, and I’m delighted that we’re able to bring in a replacement of his calibre. His average is actually a little lower than it has been in the past, but that really isn’t important to me because we know what he can do on the British tracks.
“When your team is built top-heavy in the top two as we are, it’s very difficult to continue with guests or rider replacement for any length of time and to have an expectation that the other guys are going to be able to fill Dan’s shoes.
“I’m looking forward to working with Jason again, as I have done at international level, and I’m sure we can get him firing on all cylinders.
“I’m still optimistic for the season with Jason coming in, with Zach Cook really stepping up this year, and Tate (Zischke) and Will (Cairns) are doing well at reserve.
“We know all about Brady (Kurtz) of course, we have PK (Peter Kildemand) coming back from injury and Norick (Blodorn) doing what we know he can, so we still have a fighting chance of reaching the play-offs and challenging for the league title.”
Doyle has focused on continental racing so far in 2026, lining up for Krosno in Poland and being part of squads in Sweden and Denmark for Vastervik and Esbjerg respectively.
But he admits he has missed the Premiership and is keen to take the opportunity for a mid-season return.
He will make his debut on Monday as the ATPI Aces face Leicester in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership at the start of a busy run of fixtures which also includes upcoming clashes with his former club Ipswich.
Doyle said: “Well, well, well! I tried something different after 20 years and it didn’t work logistically for me and my team.
“My racing has suffered and with travelling a lot, and most importantly being away from my family longer than needed, I have decided to come back to England and race.
“I have been given the opportunity to come back as a short-term replacement for Dan, so I have taken it with both hands.
“This is really exciting to get a chance to come back to the UK and race for the Belle Vue Aces, and I’m excited to start on Monday.”
