CAIRNS BUILDING FOR BIG DEBUT

BELLE Vue’s new Rising Star Will Cairns is relishing his step up to the top-flight this season at the age of just 16.

Cairns will make his official debut for the ATPI Aces in next Monday’s (March 30) War of the Roses encounter with old rivals Sheffield in the Premiership Knockout Cup.

He does have plenty of experience at the National Speedway Stadium to fall back upon after his recent time with the Colts in the third tier, but he’s aware the top league is a major step up.

There will be plenty of attention on the respective Rising Stars around the country, and Cairns’ immediate opponent on Monday is new Tigers signing Luke Killeen, who has experience in the position from his time with Oxford.

Cairns said: “I’m really looking forward to the season. Obviously I’m still only 16 so I’ve got lots of learning to do, and lots of experience to gain.

“It would be nice to try and beat the other Rising Stars, but I know I’ve definitely got my work cut out there.

“I think this year is all about learning and trying to find my feet. I would like to improve my average, but only time will tell!”

Cairns certainly hasn’t been short of bike time over the winter, competing in events around the world including the recent Gumball Rally at California’s Industry Grand Arena, where he finished runner-up.

Cairns said: “It’s been super-cool riding in Australia and in America. It’s been very busy and very hectic, it’s been cool.”

Tickets and hospitality packages for the big clash between the ATPI Aces and Sheffield are now available from https://www.bellevue-speedway.com/tickets .
